Valentine's Day Goodies

And now, a back-post. I made a delightful albeit pain-in-the-ass cute treat for Mark. And yes, I did make him unscramble the letters. For those of you too lazy (0r spelling challenged) to unscramble them yourselves: Happy Two Months of Togetherness.

And now for a close-up:

Basically I made cupcakes in miniature silicone heart-shaped molds. Unfortunately, they ballooned up to the point of not being recognizable as hearts. I ended up slicing the tops off and turning them upside down so that the intended shape was distinct. I melted a can of pre-packaged frosting (In my defense, I ALWAYS make my own frosting, but the kind I make wouldn't melt so nicely and thus wouldn't settle into a thin, smooth layer of icing. So there.) and poured it over the cupcakes. Then I used red melting candies and piped on the letters.

The lesson for next time: Don't store cupcakes on a cooling rack after slicing them open. I think that because they were raised and I had sliced off the tops (now the bottoms), air went up through the bottom of the cupcakes and they were stale within a couple days. Boo.
